To go along with the announcement of the new Canon EOS C400 Cine Camera, Canon has also announced a new lens. And this one’s fancy. It’s one of the company’s CINE-SERVO lenses. In this case, that’s the Canon CN7X17 KAS T.
It offers a focal length range of 17-120mm with a maximum aperture of T2.95-3.9 throughout the zoom range. It’s the successor to the CN7x17 KAS S, which was available in PL ($22,850) and EF Mount ($22,850). The new one is PL and RF mount.
Canon CN7x17 KAS T Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95
The announcement of the new RF mount version of the Canon CN7x17 KAS T lens coincides with the announcement of the Canon EOS C400 cinema camera. The full-frame RF mount cinema camera features a 12-pin port that directly connects to Canon’s Cine-Servo lenses.
Now, I mentioned above that the new EOS C400 is a full-frame camera, although this is a Super 35mm lens. So, you’re not going to be able to shoot it using the entire sensor. However, you will be able to shoot 4K on the EOS C400 using the Super 35mm crop mode.
Its maximum aperture of T2.95 lasts up to 91mm, and you’ll get T3.9 at its maximum 120mm focal length. RF communication allows the camera to transfer metadata for virtual production and automatically corrects for any lens distortion.
There are two versions of the lens. The Canon CN7x17 KAS T/R1 and the CN7x17 KAS T/P1, which are RF and PL mount respectively. The PL mount version also includes Zeiss eXtended Data and Cook/i technology built-in.
With the new announcement, the Canon CN7x17 KAS S lens is now officially discontinued. The rest of the KAS S lenses will become discontinued as their new KAS T RF/PL mount versions are announced. The company hasn’t said when those may come, though.

New Canon PL to RF Adapter
Canon has also announced a new PL to RF mount adapter. This allows you to use PL mount lenses on Canon RF mount cameras. Canon says this opens up a broad range of PL mount lenses to the Canon EOS C400 camera.
The adapter maintains electronic communication between the camera and lens for Cooke/i technology metadata. It also includes locking plates to maintain maximum mount strength and solidity.
Canon hasn’t mentioned any cameras other than the EOS C400 in the press release. Still, I expect it will allow you to use PL mount lenses on just about any RF mount camera, with varying levels of capability. But do check into this before you buy.
Price and Availability
Canon CN7x17 KAS T Cine-Servo lens for RF mount and PL mount will become available in October 2024 for an estimated price of $23,850 – the same regular price as its predecessors. The Canon PL to RF mount adapter is expected to become available in September, with a price of $1,599.
