I’ve always held the opposite opinion when confronted with the phrase “The camera never lies”. If you ask me, the camera’s always lied and that lying often causes controversy.

This amusing video by Bí Kíp Sống Ảo goes some way towards showing just how true this is, especially when it comes to social media photography.

Even before digital, the photograph was just the camera operator’s interpretation of the scene laid before them, and almost every choice they made leading up to pressing that shutter was a creative one.

Where to stand, what focal length or zoom to use, what to include in your shot or crop out of it, and many other choices will determine what “truth” gets passed along to the viewer.

It’s really no surprise that the popular Facebook and Instagram users are thinking more about these kinds of choices to come up with some very creative solutions to get a shot, even if it doesn’t always tell the complete truth.
