Leica Q2 was announced back in spring 2019. The 47.3MP camera has just got its black and white version: the Leica Q2 Monochrom. It brings a newly developed, full-frame monochrome sensor, and its sole purpose is to capture high-quality images and videos in black and white. There are many similarities between the color and the Monochrom model, but there are some improvements as well, so letßs see what you can expect.
Just like the Leica Q2, the Q2 Monochrom also comes paired with the Summilux 28 mm f/1.7 ASPH. prime lens. The sensor is based on the one in Leica Q2, only the color filter array has been omitted. This way, the camera has an improved light gathering potential and increased sharpness in true black and white.
An improvement over the Leica Q2 comes in ISO sensitivity. While the Leica Q2 goes up to ISO 50,000, the Q2 Monochrom doubles that and reaches up to ISO 100,000. The autofocus system locks on in less than 0.15 seconds and makes it one of the fastest cameras in its class.
When it comes to video capabilities, they’re once again very similar to the standard Q2 model. Both cameras shoot DCI 4K24p, UHD 4K30p, and high-speed Full HD at up to 120p.
Okay, let’s see the specs and some more photos:

$6000? For a monochrome version of a digital camera? Whoa. That’s a lot of $ for a niche product.
It’s pretty reasonable for Leica. To be clear, I’m not saying it’s a reasonable price for the camera. I’m saying it’s reasonable compared to what Leica charges for some of their other cameras, haha.
