Perfectly timed gymnast photo wins World Sports Photography Awards 2024

A captivating image of Japanese gymnast Daiki Hashimoto has been crowned the overall winner of the 2024 World Sports Photography Awards. Captured by Belgian photographer Eric T’Kindt, the photo embodies the perfect harmony between athlete, spectacle, and photographer.
The competition recognizes and celebrates the power of sports photography in capturing the essence of athleticism. Judges are leading figures from sports media, photography, branding, and creative fields. This year’s competition was organized in partnership with MPB.

2024 World Sports Photography Awards in numbers
The World Sports Photography Awards is now in its fifth year. T’Kindt’s awe-inspiring winning image was taken at the 2023 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. It’s just one of 24 winning images selected from over 9,000 entries submitted by more than 1,400 professional sports photographers from 80 countries. In addition to the overall victory, he also won the first place in the Gymnastics category.
The second-place winner was Isaac Morillas, and Ryan Pierse won the third prize in the overall competition. In addition to the “silver medal,” Isaac’s image won the Other category, whereas Ryan’s image won first place in the Aquatic category.
The World Sports Photography Awards celebrates the best photographers capturing moments from over 40 sports, from the elite level to grassroots competition. They serve as a testament to the visual power of sports photography in chronicling the dedication, grit, and triumphs that define the world of athletics.
