A moment of celebration and chaos wins Black and White Photo Awards 2024

The Black and White Photo Awards have announced the winners of their 2024 competition. The overall winner is Haikun Liang for his captivating image, Destroy Together, which captures the vibrant energy of the Spring Festival in China. This year’s edition saw a record-breaking number of entries, with nearly 5,000 photographs submitted from around the world. So, other than the overall winner, I’m sure you’ll love the category winners, too.

The Absolute Winner is Haikun Liang, and his photo shows a young man in a mask and hood holding exploding firecrackers. The image beautifully portrays the cultural tradition of “frying lions,” which aims to ward off evil spirits and usher in peace and prosperity. Liang’s masterful composition and use of light and shadow make Destroy Together a truly deserving winner, earning him the €1,000 grand prize sponsored by SanDisk.

Beyond the top prize, photographers across various categories were recognized for their exceptional work. Winners in Architecture, Street, Portrait, Fauna & Flora, and Landscape received €150 each, along with the recognition and exposure that comes with winning this prestigious award.
