Adobe today announced new features for Lightroom across mobile, web and desktop platforms. Generative Remove, powered by Adobe’s AI technology Firefly, lets you effortlessly remove unwanted objects from photos with a single click. This early access feature intelligently fills the removed area with realistic content, making your editing process faster and more effortless.
According to Adobe, Firefly has been used in over 8 billion images since its launch. It’s a part of other AI-powered features, such as Generative Fill. So, it’s no wonder it’s also powering Generative Remove. This tool removes any distractions in travel photos, blemishes from portraits, and unwanted exes… I mean, objects from any image. Adobe promises to even tackle complex backgrounds, like removing stains from patterned clothing or tablecloth wrinkles.
Here are some examples:
Additional editing enhancements
Other than Generative Remove, Adobe introduces a few new AI-powered tools and makes some older ones widely available:
- Lens Blur (now generally available): Achieve beautiful background blur with a single click. New presets offer even more creative options.
- Expanded Tethering Support: Edit photos directly in Lightroom Classic as you shoot with new Sony cameras like the Alpha 7 IV and Alpha 7R.
- HDR Optimization: Take advantage of brighter highlights, deeper shadows, and more vivid colors for stunning HDR photo editing.
- Mobile Editing Streamlined: Lightroom Mobile’s new interface prioritizes frequently used features for faster and more intuitive editing.
Adobe emphasizes responsible AI development with tools like Content Credentials. These “nutrition labels” for digital content disclose AI usage within edited photos, promoting transparency in the creative process.
Availability
Generative Remove (early access) and Lens Blur (general availability) are available now across Lightroom mobile, web, iPad, desktop, and Classic. For more information, visit the Adobe website.
