SmallRig Vibe P108 Pro

SmallRig has announced its newest LED lights. These aren’t the big Bowens Mount lights we’ve been seeing from them recently, however. They are the SmallRig Vibe P96 Pro ($24.99) and Vibe P108 Pro ($29.99). They’re small, on-camera LED lights in bicolour and RGBWW flavours.

Both lights offer 5W of output, which isn’t a massive amount. You’re certainly not going to be lighting sets with it. But it’s often enough for an on-camera fill light to stop shadows from going to blackness. And small lights like these can be handy for small product shots, too.

SmallRig’s tiny on-camera lights go “Pro”

The SmallRig Vibe P96 Pro and Vibe P108 Pro are “Pro” versions of the SmallRig P96 and P108, respectively. The new lights see an updated form factor, with a greater level of control and an LCD display for feedback on your exact settings.

When it comes to the bi-colour Vibe P96 Pro, we’ve got a white balance range from 2500K up to 6500K. It offers easy, one-handed control, which is useful if your other hand is holding the camera. Of course, you’ve got that display on the back, so there’s no guesswork like there was with the original P96 and P108.

The coldshoe base is removable, providing you with a 1/4″-20 socket underneath. So, if you don’t want to use it on top of your camera, you can mount it to light stands or mini tripods. A couple of these on Manfrotto Pixis ($32.88) could make for a great little desktop product lighting set.

Not just bicolour, but RGBWW, too

The SmallRig Vibe P108 Pro is essentially the same as the Vibe P96 Pro but with added RGB lighting. It also offers a 2500-6500K white balance range and 12 different lighting effects vs the 5 lighting effects of the P96 Pro. Both lights also boast a CRI>95 and TLCI>98 for high colour accuracy.

There’s no modifier mount, obviously, and there’s a lot you won’t be able to do with them. But they still appear to be very versatile little lights. Need a little bit of low-power pop while live streaming? This is easy to mount on your camera or next to your computer monitor or smartphone screen.

SmallRig Vibe P96 Pro and Vibe P108 Pro

Both lights offer up to 1.2 hours of use on a full charge at full power or “3 hours for regular shooting”. I’m not sure how SmallRig defines “regular shooting” – I mean, you might regularly need them at full power – but 1.2 hours at full power isn’t bad for such small lights.

But they charge up over USB-C, drawing 5v at 1 amp. That’s 5 watts, the same amount of power it puts out in light. So, you should be able to charge it up about as quickly as it drains, meaning about 1.2 hours from flat to full. Or, you can just keep it plugged in while using it for longer durations.
