Knowled MG1200R RGB LED Light

Godox has announced a new RGB version of its Knowled MG1200 LED light. The Godox MG1200R ($4990) is a 1200-watt LED light with a wide colour temperature from 1,800K up to 10,000K and CRI and TLCI scores of 96 and 95, respectively.

It’s built for those who need a lot of light on set and have the budget to match. It puts out a lot of light with a wide range of remote control methods. It’s also IP54-rated for use on location in less-than-ideal weather.

The Godox MG1200R is the latest in the company’s MG series. At the 1200W level, the new light joins the Godox MG1200Bi ($2,690), a 1200W bi-colour LED light. Both lights share the same intelligent G mount system for your modifiers, allowing communication between the two when in use.

It offers a full RGB spectrum colour output, letting you light your subjects in just about any colour you can think of. As well as the usual CCT, HSI, RGBW, GEL and XY modes, the MG1200R also features 14-built in special effects modes.

The effects include flash, lightning, cloudy, broken bulb, TV, candle, fire, fireworks, explosion, welding, cop car, SOS, RGB cycle, and party effects. Each of them has configuration options, allowing you to tweak and tailor them to better suit your needs at the time of use.

Multiple Control Methods

As one would expect from a light at this level, there is a wide range of control methods. Of course, you’ve got the manual control panel right there on the MG1200R’s controller, but you’ve got remote options, too.

Of course, there’s the usual wired DMX and wireless LumenRadio CRMX, but you’ve also got app control from your smartphone or tablet – as shown in the video above. The MG1200R also has a wired Ethernet socket, supporting Art-Net and sACN protocols.

It’s a very beefy LED light with a lot of potential. It’s not a light that everyone’s going to need, but when you do need this kind of power and capability, it looks like a solid option.

Price and Availability

The Godox MG1200R is available to pre-order now for $4,990. It’s also available to pre-order in bundles with various cases, including a carry bag ($5,190), flight case ($5,290) or hard case ($5,390).
